Government of Canada’s Benefits Finder

The Benefits Finder is a tool that can help you find Benefits and Services that you may be eligible to receive. It is provided by the Canadian government. It does not collect or track your information. The more questions you answer, the more customized and accurate your results will be.

GSH/HST credit – The goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax (GST/HST) credit is a tax-free quarterly payment that helps individuals and families with low and modest incomes offset the GST or HST that they pay. It may also include payments from provincial and territorial programs. You are automatically considered for the GST/HST credit when you file your taxes. Click here to get more information 

Pension income splitting – you may be able to split your eligible pension income with your spouse or common-law partner to reduce any income tax you owe. Click here to get more information 

65 years and older?

PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME OF THESE BENEFITS ARE ALSO AVILABLE TO OTHER AGE GROUPS.

Disability tax credit (DTC): eligible individuals with a disability or their supporting family member may claim $8,870 per year as a non-refundable tax credit. Go to canada.ca/disability-tax-credit.

Age amount Tax credit: Claim non-refundable tax credit up to $7,898 per year if you are 65 and older. Click here to get more information 

Canada caregiver credit – non-refundable tax credit that may be available to you if you provide support to a spouse, a common-law partner, or certain other individuals with a mental or physical impairment. Click here to get more information 

Home accessibility tax credit – non-refundable tax credit for eligible renovations to improve the accessibility of your home. A maximum of $20,000 per year in eligible expenses can be claimed. Click here to get more information 
 
Medical expenses – deduct eligible medical expenses that you, your spouse, or your common-law partner paid during the year, this is the Line 33099 when filing your tax. Click here to get more information
